School Profile

Breckinridge Metropolitan High School (BMHS) addresses the unique needs of students who require continued placement in a structured environment to succeed in school and who can best be served in one of the three distinct educational programs provided at BMHS.

  • The Youth Program is designed to provide an appropriate transition for those students who are returning from juvenile residential facilities, who have had involvement in Juvenile Court, and/or long-term placement in Louisville Metropolitan Youth Detention Center (LMYDC). This program provides educational and behavioral support services that typically are not available in the regular schools and assist those students who demonstrate readiness for transition into regular school placement. Those students who do not demonstrate readiness to return to local schools will be assisted in other educational avenues toward graduation and meaningful employment.
  • The Preparatory School is designed to work with students who have committed violations as outlined in the JCPS Code of Acceptable Behavior and Discipline and have demonstrated success at other alternative settings, but who still appear to need and/or would benefit from the behavioral supports at BMHS.
  • Riverview is a school within a school. It is a comprehensive intervention program for students with severe emotional behavior disorders.
