Westport has been named one of three middle school athletic hubs for the district. There is a five-year plan to upgrade our facilities, allowing us to host a variety of athletic events. Our baseball field is almost finished, and a softball field will soon follow. We are adding boys' and girls' soccer teams as well as contact football teams this year. Our field and track will be renovated with bleachers, and a concession building will eventually be constructed.

Westport's eighth grade math teachers are being featured this year by PD 360, a national on-line professional development service from the School Improvement Network. They are following our teachers as they implement the new KY Core Academic Standards this year. It is a great honor to have been selected.

Eighth grade math teacher Julie Williams has been chosen as a KY Council of Teachers of Mathematics MESA Award recipient. We are very proud of Ms. Williams!

Westport was pleased to welcome Congressman John Yarmuth and the Century Council for an assembly entitled Ask-Listen-Learn. Students discussed the dangers of underage drinking and were encouraged to talk to their parents about making healthy choices.

Eighth grade social studies teacher Randy Perkins was selected to participate in the Picturing America School Collaboration Conference entitled "Picturing America: Faces, Spaces, and Places" at the Kentucky Historical Society. This conference is sponsored by a generous gift from the National Endowment for the Humanities.

The Warhawk football team won trophies this Summer at the JCPS Pre-season Jamboree, the Carroll Co. Bowl, and the Campbellsville University Bowl. Over the summer, our 7th grade team won the 2011 Derby City 7-on-7 Tournament.
