Western Middle School

School Profile

Western Middle is located in the Portland Neighborhood of Louisville's West End. Western was originally established as a junior high school of The Louisville Public School System when founded in 1928. Western became a middle school in 1975 upon the merger of The Louisville Public School and Jefferson County Public School Systems. 

Western will serve as a district wide Visual & Performing Arts Magnet school beginning in the 2010-2011 academic year. 

Western Middle students may choose a course of study that offers multiple opportunities to explore the visual and performing arts while they build a solid foundation of knowledge in core academic areas. The academic program focuses on reading, writing, math, science, and social studies, and each of these core areas is integrated with drama, music, dance, and visual arts. The College Prep Scholar Program offers students a unique experience that includes authentic leadership projects, tutoring and mentoring by college students, and field trips that provide a preview of college life.

School Programs

Extended School Services, Sports Club Education Program, Youth Services Center, The Advanced Program curriculum will be available to qualifying students.
