Founded in 1928 as Highland Junior High, Highland Middle School carries the proud tradition of excellence as a community school as well as offering magnet and optional programs. At Highland, we are dedicated to maintaining a safe, nurturing, and educational environment with strong academic standards. All students are challenged academically through quality instruction and a variety of enriching experiences.

Highland Middle School teaches to high academic and social standard so that each member of the school community will develop a desire for lifelong learning and community responsibility.

Academics

Highland offers a challenging curriculum that includes Advanced Program, two foreign languages, a strong Fine Arts Program, and the International Studies Magnet Program. Within these programs all students are offered a solid foundation of knowledge with rigorous instruction in an environment where diversity is both respected and appreciated.

International Studies Magnet Program

Our Global Village

To prepare students to be competitive in a Global Village, Highland 's International Studies Magnet Program emphasizes the learning of world cultures throughout the related arts classes. Music, art, drama, dance, Spanish and French classes focus on the influences of world cultures on each other. The theme of Global Village helps students connect to a wider, more diverse world.

Related-Arts Classes

Among the unique classes offered through our related-arts classes are a nationally recognized Art Program that consists of 3D and 2D art classes, French and Spanish, dance, drama, advanced orchestra and chorus, and jazz band. Other related-arts include Technology, Humanities, Health, and PE.
