| Carrithers houses a state-of-the-art Technology Education One Lab where students study communications, biotechnology, transportation, manufacturing, and preengineering through PLTW-Gateway to Technology. The lab reinforces computer skills that prepare students to compete effectively in our rapidly changing technological environment and to prepare them for careers in the fields of engineering. Carrithers is one of only two middle schools in Jefferson County to participate in Panasonic's Kids Witness News, a television news program produced by students as part of their communications studies. All students have ready access to computers available in the Media Center, two labs, the tech lab, and in most classrooms. A third full lab is being planned. The school's three fully wired computer environments enable entire classes to complete activities using Microsoft Office, Internet Resources, and Success Maker materials. Students work on keyboarding skills as they work in the labs. Cart laptops provide 32 computers to use in the math and science classrooms. |
