The Traditional Program expects a high degree of parent involvement, and this means that the students should be able to get help from their parentswith homework, projects, studying, and all other aspects of schoolwork. It also means that the teachers will be in close contact with parents and that there will be a cooperative effort to ensure that students are successful. Not everyone can be a part of everything, but parents should be able to find something to become involved.
Barret is a School-Based Decision Making (SBDM) school, and, has an elected council consisting of three teachers, two parents, and the principal sharing in decision-making. I urge all parents to become involved in this process.
The State and the Jefferson County Public School District have developed specific Content and Performance Standards for every subject at each grade level. These are the basis used to help the staff prepare students for high school and lifelong learning. Our educational goals and plans are contained in a document entitled the Comprehensive School Plan (CSIP); teachers and parents assist in writing this document. We hope that parents will continue to be highly involved in the planning process for continued improvement.
I hope your experiences at Barret are rewarding.
