Attendance/Tardy Reporting

When students are absent or tardy to school, a parent/guardian must call school at 485-8340. In addition, a follow-up note explaining the absence must be sent to the school when the student returns. Failure to provide a note within three days of the students return, results in the absence being recorded as unexcused. Students tardy to school must sign in at the Attendance Office. Any student failing to sign in receives ISAP, and parent contact is made. Continued failure to sign in results in progressive discipline being applied. Students who cannot maintain acceptable attendance and tardy records are asked to consider other options.

Excused Absences

Excused absences include the following reasons: student illness, death in the family, court, religious holiday, or administrative approval.

Unexcused Absences and Tardies

Unexcused tardies and absences are dealt with as violations of the discipline code with appropriate disciplinary measures being applied. All tardies to school are classified as unexcused unless a parent/guardian makes written contact with the school to verify that the tardy is excused.

Tardy Policy
A tardy is defined as arriving to school/1st period after 7:40 a.m. or arriving to class after the bell tone.

• 1 tardy-1 detention (that day or the next school day)
• 3 tardies – Saturday school
• 6 tardies-STOP assignment/Parent contact
• 9 tardies-Parent conference and possible suspension (at the discretion of the administration) with each additional 3 tardies being treated the same.

In addition, any student who has accumulated 10 or more unexcused tardies during the school year and/or 10 or more unexcused absences(including suspension days) will:

• Be unable to participate in school dances and related activities
• Be unable to attend Junior/Senior Prom

Early Dismissal
To obtain permission to leave school during the school day, a student must present a note from his or her parent/guardian to the Attendance Office clerk prior to first period. This note must contain the following information:

• Student’s name and grade
• Date
• Reason for leaving school
• Time to be excused
• Parent/Guardian signature, with telephone number, where parent/guardian can be reached
to verify the early dismissal request.

Note: In order for a student to leave school early, personal contact
must be made with a parent/guardian to verify the early dismissal.
The student must sign out in the Attendance Office at the time of the
early dismissal. Please try to make doctor appointments after school
