The Freshman Academy at Doss High School is a structured environment that works to provide students and families with a positive transition from eighth grade to high school. The academy, with a team consisting of an assistant principal, a counselor, and 12 teachers, is housed in their own wing of the building. This team monitors the work of students and meets regularly to discuss student performance and academy projects.

Consistency is stressed through the academy's instructional practices and discipline code. Student recognitions and programs are organized by members of the team in conjunction with the Doss Youth Services Center.
