Liberation Bowl

     The Louisville Central High School Black History Liberation Bowl Team has become the dominant team in the nation. They have established themselves as the Chicago Bulls of the 90s when it comes to winning championships. They are the 4 time defending National Champions. This prestigious team has also managed to win to 5 out of the last 6 titles as well under the guidance of their inspiring sponsor/coach Mr. Riccardo X.

Mission

     The mission of the Liberation Bowl is to educate our youth and community; to motivate and inspire students to strive for academic achievement by focusing on the principles of self-esteem, self-determination, purpose, commitment, and leadership; to award scholarships and provide education opportunities, experiences, and activities to students who demonstrate academic achievement and proficiency in the study of African American history; to involve the collective community as an active participant in developing intellectual opportunities and appropriate curriculum for our youth; and to challenge students to empower themselves by being informed citizens committed to uplifting themselves and their communities.

     The Louisville Central High School Invitational Black History Liberation Bowl is a community-oriented education and scholarship program that encourages the study and promotes the significance of Black History. The Liberation Bowl's Quick Recall Competition annually provides opportunities to compete for scholarships. Since its founding in 1997, the Liberation Bowl Scholarship Fund has given over $125,000 in scholarships for college tuition and discounts for annual field trips to African-American historic sites to more than 1,000 students.

Curriculum Objectives

Students will be:

  • Informed of struggles, contributions, achievements, etc., that African Americans have made and continue to make to the world community.

  • Encouraged to focus on the principles of self-esteem, self-determination, purpose, and commitment.

  • Inspired by a spirit of collective work and responsibility.

  • Challenged to develop their leadership skills and to use their creative energies and talents.

  • Motivated to develop a lifetime commitment to the study of African-American history.

  • Awarded scholarships for distinguished academic achievement.

  • Educated, empowered, and committed to uplifting themselves and their communities!
