CHS Counselor's Office

Guidance and counseling services are available to all students at Central High School. The goal of the Guidance Department at Central High School is to work cooperatively with parents, teachers, and administration in order to develop the maximum potential in our students. The school counselor's role is to help students become better learners by providing individual counseling and academic/career/vocational advisement. Guidance and Counseling Office hours are 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. If you would like to contact one of our counselors, feel free to call (502)-485-8643.

What support services are available at Central High School Magnet Career Academy?

  • Academic Advisement
A large portion of the guidance counselor's time is spent with academic counseling. This includes activities such as course scheduling, new enrollments, credit checks, college search and advisement, study skills development, scholarship, financial aid information, and classroom presentations.

Personal Counseling

Short-term counseling is provided for all students, as needed. Although the counselors do not provide long-term, intensive therapy or psychiatric evaluations, we can advise and refer students and parents to outside agencies and professionals. Because personal emergencies do arise during school, counselors are available to aid in crisis situations that involve students.

Career Counseling

Career development can be obtained through several venues of counseling services at our school. The guidance counselors are available to discuss career options and have a vast array of resources in their offices to assist parents and students. There is also a Career Resources Center located in the counseling department in room 102.

Testing Program

The Guidance staff is responsible for coordinating and administering several tests to all students each school year. Counselors also keep students informed about the College Board SAT and ACT testing dates. Tests given include the PSAT and KCCT (Kentucky Core Content Test). In addition to these tests the counselors also work with the ECE staff and teachers to assist with annual IEP reviews and reevaluation assessments for student with learning disabilities.

Guidance Resource Center

The counselors at CHS are very proud of the Resource Center which is located next door to the counseling office. There is an extensive collection of college catalogs and brochures available for students to use. In 2005 we added four new computers to the Resource Center for students to use to do career search, college search, career assessments, and college scholarship and financial aid information.
