Unique that's the term most often used to describe the Brown School, the Districts only school with elementary, middle, and high school in the same building. Approximately 600 students in Kindergarten through Grade Twelve attend Brown. We provide a community school climate: we partnership to meet and support individual student needs.
What makes the school “one of a kind” is the less structured environment, extensive community interactions, cross-age groupings, and diverse student population. No bells or buzzers sound between classes at Brown quiet change made to permit flexible scheduling. On any given day, some classes work together on a lesson while others are on an excursion to observe local government. Oftentimes students work in small groups or on individual projects.
This informal environment enhances students’ skills of self-discipline, responsibility, and decision making, which enables students to help drive curriculum in the classroom through their ideas and experiences.
Our schools downtown location helps facilitate numerous learning opportunities including attending on-site college classes, job shadowing, community service work, and walking field trips to observe activities in our community.
