In Effect March 1st We will have a new traffic pattern beginning in March. Meeting after meeting, with JCPS, traffic engineers and others we have arrived at a plan. Needless to say, there is no easy fix and traffic on campus has been and is a mess. Here are the highlights of the morning and afternoon plans. • There will be no through traffic behind the buildings - Both before and after school. • No U turns as you come off of Herr Lane. No pick-ups after school, until the last bus leaves, off of Herr Lane. • All drop offs and pick-ups will be in front of the fine arts center. • Buses will only enter from Herr Lane, and they will exit on Herr. (Excludes handicap buses) • Traffic from Brownsboro will be one lane only. • We are still trying to finalize where we want handicap and faculty parking, and there will be more to follow on that. This will help in the morning and allow our students and staff to enter the building without dodging traffic behind the gym. It will also help the exiting in the afternoons as no through traffic will allow a safer exit from the parking lot by the football practice field, and again allow students and staff to get to the lot without dodging traffic. This has been a long time coming and very much needed. We have been fortunate beyond belief that people have not been hit and that there have not been more accidents. Much more – including maps - to follow Cap and Gown Information! If your Senior has not ordered their Graduation Cap & Gown, Balfour will be at school on Thursday, February 4, 2010. Order forms can be gotten in the Guidance Office. Senior Ad information for the yearbook was mailed home last week. If you are interested in putting a message in the 2-1- yearbook for your senior, please send message, payment and any photos you wish to include to Mrs. Barber in room S209. Space is limited and it is a first come first served basis. ***Don't forget that Counselors need 10 days to process all admission and scholarship applications. Volunteers are needed for many things...to attend model fittings and make notes, to decorate Fine Arts Center for the show, to work at the luncheon, to collect tickets and hand out programs at style show, to help models backstage and more! I am also looking for a local sandwich shop to donate or give us a nice discount on about 300 sandwiches. If you have connections with a Jimmy John's, Subway, Panera, Jason's Deli, Penn Station, etc... I would love to hear from you. On Thursday, February 5, students representing 32 English classes will compete to choose one student to represent Ballard in the Poetry Out Loud recitation contest. The winner will compete in the state competition, and the winner's class will go to Frankfort to watch. Winners of state competitions get an all expense paid trip to the finals in Washington, D.C. and a chance at a cast award. GO BRUINS!!!! Junior Class Parents There will be a meeting at 3:00 PM on Thursday, Feb. 4th in the small cafeteria to discuss the upcoming ring ceremony and ring dance. February 1, 2010 it is Ballard Girls Lacrosse day at Napa River Grill in Westport Village. This is an all day event and for every dollar spent, Napa River Grill will give 10% to the Ballard Girls Lacrosse teams. Prom Dress Collection Project – Members are asked to donate used (or new) Prom dresses that will be given to students unable to afford their own. The dresses will go to support the work of Mrs. Yvonne Riggs, Coordinator for Ballard's Youth Center, and the BHS PTA Clothing Assistance Program. Used dresses must be clean and in good repair. Members will receive 3 Beta Hours for each dress, with a maximum of 6 hours given. The collection will run through Feb. 25. Coordinator of this project is Diamond Davies. Valentines for Barton House Project – Members will receive Beta hours for taking part in an after-school valentine-making workshop Wed., Feb. 3, or Thurs., Feb. 4, 2:30 – 3:30. Members will deliver them to the residents the following week. Details are posted on the Beta Board. Coordinators of this project are Shelby Hall and Layla Lutfi. SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT FOR JUNIOR PARENTS The following positions are open and needed for the Junior Class Ring Ceremony and Ring Dance: Ring Ceremony-March 18th THE PROM CHALLENGE Every year students decide not to go to their prom due to the lack of clothing, shoes or tuxedos. This year we can do something to insure that every Ballard student has beautiful and appropriate prom wear. We can donate the dresses that are hanging in the closet waiting for the perfect person. The 15th district PTA will be having a contest and has issued a challenge to all Jefferson County High Schools to raise awareness and donate prom dresses to the Clothing Assistance Program (CAP). The Prom Donation Drive will begin the week of January 25, 2010 and will run until February 5, 2010. Dresses can be dropped off in the South Office at Ballard. Any student who donates a dress will be entered in a drawing for a gift card. Students can then make appointments through the Cubs to Bruins Youth Services Center for the CAP program. The winning PTA will receive such items as a refrigerator, microwave, or TV to give away at Prom or Project Graduation. Questions??? They have proven to be of the finest singer/musicians in the state and will be participating in the All-State clinic and performances February 3-5 at the Kentucky International Convention Center and the Kentucky Center for the Arts. The Ballard Chamber Orchestra has been selected to perform as a featured ensemble at the 2010 KMEA Music Educators' Convention! This is the highest honor an orchestra can achieve within the state. Selection for this prestigious opportunity is through a blind application process. Ballard is the only high school orchestra from Louisville to be chosen to perform this year. Please make plans to attend this very special performance on Friday, February 5th at 1:40 p.m. at the Ky. Convention Center downtown! Chamber Orchestra Members are...
