The Atherton High School Library is open Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., for students' use. The library is intended as a quiet place for:
- Reading, studying, or taking a test.
- Research (using reference books, magazines, newspapers, computers, and vertical files and making copies). Note: Surfing the Internet and/or playing computer games is not allowed.
- Word processing (portfolio- and school-related work only).
- Checking out and returning books (two-week checkout/late fee--5 cents a school day).
- Alpha Smart checkout, check-in, and printing.
- Creating a class project or poster.
- Small-group planning sessions, group work, tutoring, or conferences.
In order for these different activities to go on simultaneously, everyone in the library must respect every other person. No individual or class has the right to interfere with the completion of another person's acceptable library activity. Anyone doing so will be moved to another place in the media center or escorted back to class or to the office and banned for one week or more.
