courses, those students who wish to pursue technology courses may
choose a technology major. Most of these courses are two year
commitments and many work towards or require an industry recognized
certification.

Computer & Technology Applications I
Computer & Technology Applications I is designed to develop in the students a
full range of computer skills. Emphasis is placed on keyboarding,
research, technical reading and writing, and computer problem
solving skills.
Computer & Technology Applications II
Computer & Technology Applications II explores the use and mastery of computers
in the business world by studying topics such as web page development,
marketing design, and desktop publishing.
Computer & Technology Applications II/IC3
(Adv Computer Apps) This class is open to students who have successfully completed an admission exam offered to incoming freshmen. It allows students to bypass 45613111 – Computer & Technology Applications I course. Successful students can then take upper level courses beginning with the sophomore year. The focus of this course is earning the IC3 Certification.
Information Technology
A+ Certification
Requirements: Teacher recommendation and prerequisite. This course is the prerequisite for helpdesk and networking classes. Students learn about computer hardware (fall) and operating systems (spring). They build a computer and perform maintenance on school machines. If successful, students will attain the A+ certification by COMPTIA. Six hours of free college credit upon successful completion of the A+ Certification Exam.
Computer Repair/Help Desk
Requirements: Teacher recommendation and prerequisite. The technology assistant will learn to repair and troubleshoot computers, load software, setup printers, assist in high school classrooms and computer labs, and will learn some networking techniques.
Net+
Requirements: teacher recommendation and prerequisite. The objective of this course is to prepare students for the Comptia Net+ Exam and to prepare students for job-related tasks as a network professional. A final class project will be assigned to help students gain real-world experience.
Advanced Net+/Security+
Requirements: teacher recommendation and prerequisite. The objective of this course is to provide additional preparation for students for the Comptia Net+ Exam. This course will also cover security topics.

Business Courses
Computer Accounting I
An introduction to the concepts and procedures used in accounting for business activity, income determination and accounting for assets, liabilities and ownership equity, and the preparation of financial statements for individuals, partnerships, and corporations. Automated accounting and spreadsheet programs will be incorporated. This class will be held in a computer lab.
Business and Personal Law
This course is designed to help you better understand personal, consumer, and business law. You will also understand how law affects your everyday life. Topics we will cover during the year include ethics and law, criminal law, tort law, court systems, contract law, consumer protection, automobile law, employment contracts, marriage law, borrowing and buying on credit, taxes, negotiable instruments, business types and wills.
Business Management
This course will cover Business fundamentals such as economic, legal, and social foundations along with a close look at organizing businesses, marketing products and services, financing operations, managing and developing employees, and making difficult business decisions in a dynamic competitive atmosphere.
Teenage Economics
This course is designed to teach students all about the subtleties and realities of topics like student loans, home and auto loans, interest and interest rates, money and banking, investments, insurance, taxes, credit cards, real estate and investment law, retirement planning, basic economics and general career education.
Microsoft Office Certification
This course focuses on the Microsoft Office Suite programs of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access. This course provides the student with an in-depth knowledge of each program at the expert level. Students will become proficient in these programs by concentrating on the objectives for the Microsoft Office User Specialist certification.
Principles of Marketing
Principles of Marketing is a project-based business course that develops student understanding and skills in the functional areas of marketing: channel management, marketing-information management, market planning, pricing, product/service management, promotion, and selling. Students acquire an understanding and appreciation of each of the marketing functions and their ethical and legal issues. Decision matrices are employed to aid in market planning.

Graphics Courses
Computer Mapping / GIS Software
This course teaches Geographic Information Services software. Students learn about computer mapping and database technology. They learn the software ARC View and prepare for GIS internships. This course is very hands-on and involves both outdoor and indoor activities. ($15.00 lab fee)
Advance Computer Mapping / GIS Software
(GIS Application) Requirements: Teacher recommendation and prerequisite (45614041-Computer mapping/GIS Software). This course is a project-oriented continuation of the 45614041 course. Students will complete projects determined by UL and JCPS and work on or toward community internships.
Foundations in Computer Graphics
This is a stand-alone graphics class offering a broad overview of types of graphics and graphics programs, studying both print and web design. Small-scale illustration and graphics projects will incorporate the most commonly used software. Students considering graphics and advertising as a career should skip this class and take Graphic Communication.
Graphic Communication
Graphics Communications is an introduction to the dynamic and creative world of digital graphics. It’s the starting point of three year Graphics program that is a must for any student interested in Graphic Design, Digital Art, or Advertising. Focusing on the software used in the design world, Graphic Communications works with Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. Students learn the fundamentals of layout and design while creating such work as: magazine covers, digital painting, advertisement layouts, and marketing materials. Students have the opportunity to compete in Louisville AdFed’s High School Marketing Challenge. It’s the exciting combination of creative expression and technical skill.
Graphic Communication II
Requirements: Teacher recommendation and prerequisite (Graphic Communication I). This class stresses real world projects, creative visual expression, and both independent and group work ethic while studying advanced levels of expertise in desktop publishing, vector graphics and image editing software. Typography, logo design and advertising design are emphasized as students learn more about the design industry and print process. Students will participate in SkillsUSA Design and Leadership competitions.
Graphic Communications III
Requirements: Teacher recommendation and prerequisite (Graphic Communication II) This is the third and last course in Eastern’s Graphics Program. It is primarily for students who are interested in a career in the design industry; however, any student completing the first two courses may enroll. Students will create large scale print projects for the community and develop a portfolio of work. Students will participate in our Job Shadowing program with local design/print companies. Finally, students will take the Adobe Photoshop Associates Certification exam.
Web Page Design
Students will apply technology skills to a full range of computer applications with emphasis on web page design. This class created the Eastern Web site and manages many other sites. The students will master the language of XHTML and CSS, as well as programs such as Adobe Photoshop, Fireworks, Flash, and Dreamweaver. Four hours of free college credit from KCTCS will be awarded upon successful completion of the course.
Web Page Design II
Requirements: Teacher recommendation and prerequisite. Students will apply technology skills to a full range of computer applications with emphasis on web page design and development. Focus will be placed on Adobe and Macromedia products (Photoshop, Fireworks, Flash, and Dreamweaver). Students will design and maintain personal, business, and school websites.
Yearbook I
Requirement: Application only deadline date will be announced. Creation of a fully digital yearbook. Traditional art and digital art merge into one.
Yearbook II
Requirement: Prerequisite (Yearbook I).
Second year of yearbook.
Newspaper I
Requirement: Application only - Deadline date will be announced. Desktop publishing, scanning, and journalism skills. Students will
apply technology skills to a full range of computer applications and
design skills in the creation of the Eastern Eagle Newspaper. The
students will master programs such as Adobe PhotoShop and
Adobe In Design.
Newspaper II
Requirement: Prerequisite (Newspaper I).
Second year of newspaper.
Video
This is a two-year set of classes that focus on the entertainment, information, and personal Video Industry. The classes include the fundamentals of shooting, editing and producing video for the World Wide Web, Television Broadcasting, Video Entertainment, and Personal Video. Also covered is an awareness of the various digital and analog technology systems that are used in these processes ($15.00 lab fee)
Advanced Video II
Teacher recommendation and prerequisite. This second year Video course focuses on the entertainment, information, and personal Video Industry. Further applications and hands-on experience are utilized as students create and publish video products for the World Wide Web, Television Broadcasting, Video Entertainment Production, and Personal Video Industry. Additionally, students will work on individual projects that may include the school's Video Conference center, Distance Learning, and DVD and CD productions. ($15.00 lab fee)
Digital Music
This course will cover the basics of MIDI sequencing, digital audio workstations and digital recording, and score preparation. Instruction will be based on hands-on interaction with various applications, which may include: Adobe Audition, Finale, and Cakewalk. Students will be instructed as to the general character of such software and will be expected to discover specifics of running programs through guided experimentation.
Advanced Digital Music
Teacher recommendation and prerequisite (Digital Music).This is second year of Digital Music.
Web Design 3/3-D modeling and animation
Requirements: Prerequisite (Web Page Design I). So, PhotoShop and Flash are too easy? Then try 3-D modeling and animation. Using cutting edge vector based 3-d software, this course will provide you with the fundamentals of simple and complex three dimensional object constructions and animations that are web ready and print quality, including: graphic visualization, storyboarding, story telling, texture mapping, lighting and basic cinematography. The course requires strong graphics abilities and visualizations skills. A strong foundation in PhotoShop and Flash would be beneficial.

The Java programming language platform is the high-end language of the Internet. This language platform provides a portable, interpreted, high-performance, simple, and object-oriented programming language. This course can be taken as an Advanced Placement Course.
Advanced JAVA
Requirements: Teacher recommendation and prerequisite (JAVA I). This will be a project-oriented course, with focus on web programming and advanced application development.

Bio-Technology
Requirements: Teacher recommendation Students will examine the human genome and other genomes using WEB based resources and the laboratory. Students will learn how to find genomic data and their protein translation products. Students will examine human genetic diseases, viral diseases, bacterial diseases and stem cells. Students will learn in the laboratory how to use micropipettes, centrifuges, electrophoresis equipment, transilluminators, digital cameras, pH meters and spectrophotometers.
Nano-Technology
Requirements: Teacher recommendation This course provides a general introduction to the multi-disciplinary field of nano-technology. The course will cover basic knowledge of the physical phenomena of tiny particles. It will delve into the concepts and techniques involved in observing and manipulating matter this small (at the nanometer scale). (Lab Fee $60.00)
