2010 AP Summer Reading for Juniors

Reading for AP juniors Language and Composition class.  In addition to the Louisville Free Public Library's reading program, students should read the following essays.

Advanced Placement

The advanced placement program is a well respected national program run by the College Board at Princeton. The program allows students the opportunity to earn college credit while still in high school. The student signs up for a high school class that is taught by a certified Advanced Placement Teacher. The student earns college credit by passing a national exam given in May.

COMMONWEALTH DIPLOMA

The Commonwealth Diploma is a prestigious award given by the State of Kentucky to show that a student has completed a rigorous college prep curriculum with Advanced Placement Courses. Requirements for the diploma are 4 Advanced Placement Courses:

          • 1 English
          • 1 Math or Science
          • 1 Foreign Language
          • 1 Elective

Students must take an exam for 3 of the four classes. There is no requirement that they must pass these exams, only that they take them. The state of Kentucky will reimburse the test fees for the three of the required courses if a student receives a composite score of at least 8.
