Reading Recovery is a short-term intervention that supports classroom instruction for the lowest-achieving students in the first grade. Children meet individually with a specifically trained teacher for 30 minutes daily for 12 to 20 weeks. The goal is for children to develop effective reading and writing strategies in order to work within an average range of classroom performance.

Reading Recovery is implemented annually in over 10,000 U.S. schools. Wellington has two Reading Recovery teachers, Mrs. Allen and Ms. Belt, and provides services to more than 25 first grade students each year.
