St. Matthews Elementary School

"Leap into Learning"

Hours

School hours are 9:00 AM - 3:45 PM. There will be no adult supervision until 8:30 unless you are paying to have your child enrolled in the YMCA Child Care Enrichment Program. If a child is eating breakfast at school, the student must arrive in time to eat, be out of the cafeteria, and in the classroom by 9:00.

Tardiness

Any students arriving after 9:00 AM should report to the office before going to the classroom. Tardiness does count against a child having perfect attendance. Children who are checked out of school before the end of the day must also be counted as tardy on attendance records.

Early Dismissal

We encourage you to try to schedule your child's doctor and dental appointments around school hours. If this is not possible, you must come to the office first to check your child out of school. No child will be released directly from the classroom. If a parent knows that a child will be leaving early, a note to the teacher would be greatly appreciated. Positively no student is to leave the grounds without permission from the principal's office.

Temporary Bus or Other Transportation Procedures

At any time when a student is to go home other than their regular routine, the student must have written permission, signed by the parent or guardian and approved by the principal designee.

Medications

All medicines, including over the counter medicine, cannot be administered by the school without a form signed by the parent and doctor. Prescribed medication also requires a form signed by the parent and doctor before the medication can be administered by school staff. The medication and form must be filed in the school office.

Accidents

If your child is injured at school, we will make him/her comfortable and then call you immediately. If you cannot be reached, we will attempt to contact the emergency number that you listed on the enrollment form. EMS will be called in extreme emergencies. Please be sure that the school office has an emergency number in addition to your home/work phone number, so that in case of illness or emergency, we will know how to contact you.

School Lunch and Breakfast Program

Breakfast and lunch are served in our school's cafeteria every day.  St. Matthews participates in the "Offer vs. Serve" and the "Something Extra" lunch programs.  These programs allow several food choices. Breakfast is $1.75 for students while the reduced-price breakfast is 30¢.  Regular-priced student lunches are $2.30, and 40¢ for reduced-price. Applications for the free- and reduced-lunch program are available through the JCPS office. If you did not receive an application and would like to apply, please contact Nutrition Services at (502) 495-7080. Menus are sent home monthly. You may also view a current menu by visiting http://www.jefferson.k12.ky.us/Departments/NutritionServices/menus/lunchel.pdf. Occasionally these menus have to be changed due to late deliveries. We expect children to eat and handle food properly.

Bookstore (Mon. - Thur. 8:55 - 9:10 a.m.)

School supplies may be purchased at the school bookstore.  Students should report to their homerooms and obtain teacher permission to go to the bookstore.  Available outside the bookstore are pencil and paper vending machines.  PAPER=50¢ (two quarters only)  PENCILS=2 for 30¢ (one quarter and nickel only).

School Supplies 2011-2012

This year, parents were given the option to purchase school supplies through Schoolkidz. Forms were sent home for those interested in paying one price for all school supplies. The cutoff for ordering the supply kits was May 5, 2011. These kits can be picked up August 11, 2011 during the "Tiger Take Off" day.

If you missed the pre-order of supplies deadline, you can purchase supplies on your own through local retailers. Click on link to view supply lists by grade.
