School Profile

Kenwood Elementary is dedicated to educating the whole child, recognizing and building upon the strengths of each student. As members of the Literacy System, Kenwood students receive rich reading and writing instruction daily. Hands-on-learning in science and mathematics is promoted through the JCPS Science Modules and Math Investigations 2.  Teachers are engaged in the Technology Integration Project (TIP), which enables them to enrich and deepen learning opportunities for students through the use of laptop computers and SMART Boards in the classroom. Students also have the opportunity to work with technology as members of the Student Technology Leadership Program.  Our Arts program provides instruction in creative movement and dance, drama, and the visual arts, as well as music education.  Kenwood offers various clubs such as basketball, cheerleading, step team, drama club, chorus, band, orchestra, art club, library leaders, safety patrol, environmental club, and Spanish.  We nourish the mind as well as the body with the Tap into Fitness program, focusing on physical fitness and healthy choices. We offer Early Childhood programs for four-year-olds.  Our PTA works collaboratively with the SBDM Council and the Leadership Committee to provide additional cultural events, support for attendance and instructional activities, and recreational programs.  The FRC staff works to remove barriers to education and to assist students and families by meeting basic needs and by providing family information sessions.
