Hazelwood Elementary
School Profile
Hazelwood is one of a select group of schools in the country to be chosen as a pilot for the Child Development Project, a program that teaches children to become a caring community of learners. Students learn to make good behavior choices. The program also stresses family involvement in learning. Hazelwood is a Health Promotion School of Excellence, and a participant in the Comprehensive School Health Education Project. Students also participate in art, music, computer, and science classes to balance their education. Technology is a major emphasis at Hazelwood, where each classroom has Internet capacity, and teachers are trained to help students be successful with technology. The school provides Early Childhood Jump Start programs for four-year-olds, as well as a Family Resource Center and Extended School Services. Hazelwood is a School-Based Decision Making school.
