  • A challenging academic curriculum of studies
  • Regular attendance
  • Positive behaviors
  • Enhancement of self esteem

Belief Statements
Every person can and will learn.

  • Every child has a right to learn in a safe, caring, and orderly environment.
  • All people need and deserve to be treated with love, dignity, and respect.
  • Learning is a life-long process/activity leading to personal growth and satisfaction.
  • Each child is an individual and learns in different ways at different rates and times.
  • Each person has an equal right to an education that accommodates his/her needs.
  • Positive self-esteem accelerates learning and achievement.
  • Cultural diversity should be recognized and celebrated.
  • Risk taking accelerates achievement.
  • Sense of humor is essential to mental and physical health.
  • People are responsible for their own future.

Program of Studies
We offer a traditional program of studies (reading, math, language arts, science, and social studies). Our curriculum also includes computer and technology training, vocal music, creative movement, multi-cultural studies, art, physical education, drama, public speaking, Spanish, science lab, positive action social skills, and basic research skills. Many of our students also participate in advanced program studies, orchestra, band, Student Technology Leadership Program, and a variety of other clubs.

Fern Creek Elementary School is organized around six outcomes:
1. Complex thinkers
2. Self-directed learners
3. Ethical individuals
4. Effective communicators
5. Quality workers
6. Responsible citizens

We are a school where teachers lecture less and coach more; where critical thinking-not rote memorization-is the objective; and where the task is to prepare the young for a lifetime of learning.
