Special Needs

Cochran is proud to have 7 ECE teachers, 2 Speech Clinicians, 6 assistants, and 2 sign language interpreters to serve students identified with special learning needs. Most special needs students are mainstreamed into all special area classes: art, practical living, computer and music/drama. Students are also mainstreamed, as ready, into regular ed. classrooms for part of the day. Some special needs students participate in school and extracurricular activities such as STLP, Safety Patrol, basketball teams, and Girls on the Run. Intermediate Deaf students participate in the Deaf Literacy Project with Deaf students from a local high school, maintain pen pals with students form the Kentucky School for the Deaf, and started a traveling scrapbook of Deaf children across the United States. Students in regular education classes are encouraged to sign and to accept all personal or special needs differences. Children come first at Cochran!
