Every 1 Reads

The Jefferson County Public Education Foundation is partnering with Greater Louisville Inc. and Louisville Metro Government for a community-wide initiative called Every 1 Reads. Here at Bowen we need 40+ volunteers to work with students identified by our classroom teachers as reading below grade level. Volunteers range in age from early twenties to retirees. Training is provided. They come from business, churches, JCPS employees, Bowen parents, and PTA members. They work once a week for 30 minutes with their student. They read, make connections, give support, and provide mentoring. Time with students can be scheduled any school day between 9:30 a.m and 3 p.m.

| The Every 1 Reads program provides a whole lot more than just basic reading instruction. It offers a child the chance to interact with a positive adult role model and learn not only academics but how be socially interactive. It gives the volunteers an insight into how our schools work while they make an impact on the world of tomorrow. |

Workfest

Things are buzzing every Wednesday morning at Bowen - it's the weekly Workfest!
Volunteers gather in the cafeteria at 9:15 a.m.to get their assignments. Soon after, you'll find them working all over Bowen - copying, stapling, cutting, laminating, or doing just about anything that supports teachers and schools. Workfest is from 9:15 - 11:15 a.m. You are invited to join in the fun. Come for the full two hours, for 20 minutes - or whatever time you can spare. No need to sign-up, just show up!
