Dear Bowen Families,

This year there are two counselors at Bowen to serve our students and families. We are sharing duties, but you can contact either of us with questions or concerns.

Looking forward, we have many exciting, upcoming events. We want to encourage your family to take advantage of some of the wonderful opportunities that are provided through the school. The Family Fun Nights can be fun for the whole group. Don't miss Drive-In Movie Nights, an evening at the Family Y, and of course the night that Bowen families take over the Louisville Science Center! We don't know of any other school that offers so many activities that are planned with the whole family in mind. Mr. Tyra will keep us up to date on these activities in the parent newsletter. So keep your eyes open for opportunities for fun.

Advance Program testing will be done in October. All third graders will be tested as well as any fourth and fifth graders who have been recommended by their teacher or through parent request. You can expect to receive a mailing with the results to be sent to your home by the end of January. Contact us with any questions regarding the testing process.

Food for Thought
Sharing family meals can not only be fun but educational too! Studies show that children who take part in family mealtime conversation become better readers and score higher on tests of verbal skills. So maybe talking with their mouth full is not so bad after all!
