Accelerated Reader is a program that tracks recreational reading and checks recall and comprehension. It is a supplement to the reading program in your child's classroom. Each teacher decides if and how AR will be integrated into the instructional reading program.
Currently Bowen has 5,667 quizzes available. After reading a book on the list, students can take the quiz from any computer in the school. Results are recorded into their personal student record.
The school year is divided into four reading periods. A goal is set for each grade for each reading period. Students who reach the points goal for their grade level while averaging at least 80% are invited to a schoolwide celebration sponsored by the PTA. Students may also try to become a member of the High Points Club. This club brings special recognition to the student.
