Blake Elementary School

School Profile

Blake Elementary gets students started in their academic careers through Early Childhood programs for three- and four-year-olds. In addition to basic-skills instruction in reading, writing, mathematics, science, and social studies, students participate in art, music, physical education, library, and computer classes. The school has a computer lab, as well as computers in each classroom. Students who qualify have the opportunity to take part in an Advanced Curriculum Enrichment Program. This program includes an in-depth focus on math (provided in cooperation with the University of Louisville Graduate Mathematics Department), technology, art, music, and more. Blake provides a variety of special programs, such as band, orchestra, Reading Recovery, and Exceptional Child Education (ECE). The Student Technology Leadership Program (STLP) is also offered for students in the fourth and fifth grades. Students are recognized regularly through a Student of the Month Program and are encouraged to achieve maximum success through participation in the Student Council, Safety Patrol, WDOG newscasts, 4-H, basketball, cheerleading, and extensive student-reward programs. Blake offers ESS, a Family Resource Center (FRC), and an SBDM Council. All school programs are focused on providing a positive learning environment for students and helping all students reach proficiency in literacy and math.
