Our Family Resource Center Coordinator is Brooke Burd, MSSW

Family Resource Centers (FRCs) were started in Kentucky schools as a part of the KERA (Kentucky Education Reform Act) in 1990. The primary goal of these centers is to remove nonacademic barriers to learning as a means to enhance student academic success.

Mission
The Family Resource and Youth Center’s (FRYSC’s) program mission is to enhance students’ abilities to succeed in school by developing and sustaining partnerships that promote:

Early learning and successful transition into school
Academic achievement and well-being
Graduation and transition into adult life

What are we?
Family Resource Centers (FRC's) are designed to help remove barriers to student learning. Each center assists students and families through programs, referrals to outside agencies, and by partnering with groups within and outside of the school. Programs and services are determined by the needs of the population served, available resources, location, and other local characteristics. The centers work with families to improve students' attendance, to decrease problems with behavior or suspensions, to offer academic support, to deal with mental/physical health issues, and to offer parent support and assistance. All students and families are served regardless of income
The Wilkerson FRC offers a variety of programs and activities such as

The FRC also offers assistance to families in times of need. All of our services are based on your student’s or family situation and of course remain completely confidential. Please see us for assistance with:

Basic Needs including Emergency Financial, Food, Housing, etc.
Job training or Continuing Education including GED
Social or Health Services
New and Expectant Parent Resources
Family Counseling or Individual Counseling for your student

Many of the programs and activities of the FRC are created by the FRC Advisory Council. This council is a group of parents, teachers, and community representatives who meet bi-monthly to review our budget and programs. If you would like to be a part of this group, see us for more information.
