Jeffersontown Elementary offers many programs for your child to be involved in. We have a Dance Team, Cheerleading, Basketball, Quick Recall, and Engineering just to name a few.

Ms. Bishop with her 2008/09 Kentucky Green Club

The Kentucky Green and Healthy School's program is a state-wide, web-based, and student-centered program that empowers students and staff to move their school toward becoming safer, healthier, and more environmentally sustainable. This inquiry based program helps close the achievement gap while simultaneously using the environment as an integrated learning context.

Our Cheerleaders during the 2008/2009 School Year

The cheerleading team at Jtown Elementary believes in the school motto: Teamwork makes the dream work! We have been named National Champions for the past two years because we “dig deep” and work together. Tryouts take place in early September and the season ends in late March. Information packets are offered to all 3rd-5th grade girls. There is a considerable time and financial commitment required of families to participate in this extra-curricular activity. Anyone interested should contact the cheer sponsor, Mrs. Scott by email or leave a message with the school office (485-8274).

Jaguar Dance Team

The Jaguar Dance Team is a school-sponsored extracurricular activity that promotes the creative arts through the expression of dance, teamwork, sportsmanship and community involvement.  Try-outs are held in the fall of each school year, and are open to 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students.  Information is sent home regarding try-out dates, practice times, uniform fees and academic and conduct restrictions.  Throughout the fall and winter, dancers meet once a week to practice routines, build friendships and grow as leaders so they can best represent our school at basketball games and community events throughout the year.  We are currently awaiting final regulations for elementary teams due to the athletic restrictions placed on middle and high schools this summer.  More details regarding try-outs and the upcoming season will be given as soon as they become available.  We look forward to another fantastic year and hope to see you at try-outs so we can build another great Jaguar Dance Team.

Quick Recall

Jeffersontown’s Quick Recall team is composed of 3rd, 4th and 5th graders.  Mrs. Scott and Ms. Henderson are co-sponsors of the team.  To be a member of this academic team, you must be able to answer questions from a variety of topics such as history, math, books you have read, science, poetry, the presidents, authors, mythology and many, many more!  The key to quick recall is not only knowing the answers but being able to QUICKLY, RECALL the answers.  Our team competes against other elementary teams as “practices” beginning in late January/ealry February. These practice matches gets us ready for the big competition, which is called the Mayor’s Cup.  It is an all day academic competition.  If you are interested in being a member of the Quick Recall team, look for information to be sent home in Nov.  We will hold tryouts in early December.  If you have any questions please see Mrs. Scott or Ms. Henderson.

Jeffersontown Elementary and University of Louisville are teaming up with the Boston Museum to provide an engineering program for our students. Children are fasinated with building things and taking things apart to see how they work. The engineering program engages students in hands-on, real world engineering experiences which enhances the learning in math, sciences, and other content areas.Engineering is a project-based learning program that fosters problem-solving skills. Learning about engineering will increase students' awareness of and access to scientific and technical careers.
