Mission Statement

The mission of the Ballard Library Media Center is to create a community of lifelong learners. Information literacy - the ability to find and use information - is the keystone to lifelong learning. Students will be nurtured in their development as they acquire the skills they will need to harness and use information for a productive and fulfilling life. 



Objectives of the Library Media Center

  • To help students develop skills for exploring the wealth of information in both print and electronic resources, including the Internet.

  • To provide a wide selection of books and other materials for leisure reading.

  • To collaborate with classroom teachers in developing experiences that will support their learning goals for their students.

  • To provide up-to-date resources and equipment to enhance these classroom learning goals.

  • To provide a warm, supportive environment for students and teachers where they will feel comfortable going to any staff member regardless of what is needed.


Hours: 7:10 AM - 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday

Occasionally the schedule will have to be altered. Changes will be posted on the main door.


Circulation Policies

  • Students may check out up to 5 books at a time.

  • Books are due back in 2 weeks, but may be renewed for a
    second 2-week period. Books must be brought back to the library to be renewed.

  • A late fee of 5¢ per day, up to $2, will be charged for overdue books.

  • If a book is overdue, no other items may be checked out until the book is returned and overdue fees are paid.

  • If a book is lost or damaged, the cost to replace it will be charged.

  • If a desired book has already been checked out, a student may request that a Reserve be placed on it. When that book is returned the student will be notified.



Resources

The Library Media Center offers an extensive collection of books, magazines, newspapers, online reference sources and CD-ROMs. Video recordings, audio recordings, photo reproductions and art prints may be checked out by teachers for student use. These items have been selected to support the school's instructional program.
