You may prepay for lunches by the week or month. Checks are to be made payable to Fern Creek Elementary School. For additional information on the PrePay System or any other Fern Creek Elementary Food Service concern, please contact our Food Service Manager at 485-8428. Many students are also eligible for free or reduced-price breakfast and lunch. If you would like information on this application process, please call 495-7080.
Students are allowed to charge up to five full meals. Charges are not to exceed five meals. No child will be denied food. A free snack including milk will be offered to students with more than five meal charges, until all charges are paid. No adult will be allowed to charge their meal.
We invite you to eat breakfast or lunch with your child on any day of the week. Just write a note to your childs teacher so that we can reserve a meal and in most cases adjust the seating pattern as needed. In an effort to keep classroom interruptions to a minimum, we ask that after signing in at the office and receiving a name tag, you meet your child in the lobby at the start of your childs lunch period. We also ask that you say your hellos and good-byes in the lobby. Lunch time is 20 minutes for both students and adults; so be prepared for a faster pace than at home. The team teacher, the students, and the office staff know the specific lunch times by the first day of school and will be happy to share that information with you. Call 485-8250 for information.
Fast Food lunches or soft drinks are not permitted in the cafeteria. Your child may bring a lunch that has been prepared at home. Students are not permitted to use the vending machines before, during, or after school except by special permission on special occasions.
Expectations in the Cafeteria
The following cafeteria guidelines have been implemented for the safety of our children. After the classroom teacher has reviewed the guidelines with their students, each student will receive a copy of these guidelines to be discussed with their parents/guardians. The form will need to be signed and returned to the classroom teacher verifying that the parent and child have read them together. If you have any questions or concerns, please call Mr. Muscar, School Administration Manager, at 485-8250.
Cafeteria Expectations
All students will:
1. Use the restroom and wash hands before lunch. Children will not leave the cafeteria unless there is an emergency or they are sick.
2. Enter the cafeteria quietly and stay in line with their class. There is no running allowed.
3. Get all items needed for lunch before sitting down.
4. Sit at their assigned table in their assigned seat. Feet should be on the floor not in the seat of the chair.
5. Stay seated. Raise hands for help.
6. Talk only to the people at your table using your in class voices. No yelling.
7. Give their attention to staff when directed to be quiet/quieter.
8. Wait until the LOAs tell them to empty trays. Make sure to pick up all of their trash before taking their tray to the window.
9. Line up without talking in front of the bulletin board in the back of the cafeteria after emptying trays.
10. Use appropriate Inner Control (behavior) at all times.
11. Do not bring soft drinks or carbonated beverages (in any type of container), fast food or glass items into the cafeteria during student breakfast and/or lunch times. This guideline also applies to all adults.
