A message from the superintendent: Dr. Sheldon Berman

On behalf of the students, faculty, staff, administration, and Board, I would like to welcome you to our website. We hope you will browse through the pages to learn more about who we are and the services we offer. A wealth of information has been posted, and we hope you will find answers to many of your questions.

If you are a parent, you will find helpful details about the school calendar, bus schedules, meals, immunization requirements, and enrollment procedures. You can also check out the web pages of individual schools to determine their program offerings. Plus, you can find out about services that are specially designed to help you support your children’s academic success.

If you are a student, you will enjoy the variety of games and brain teasers, as well as homework tips and practice activities. You can also learn about sports, clubs, managing your money, and other topics that will help you in reaching your goals.

If you are a community member, we hope you will explore the descriptions of our many outstanding programs. You can also learn about the continuing stream of awards garnered by our district, our fine employees, and our accomplished students. We deeply appreciate the community’s support of our schools and want you to be well informed about the value you are getting from your investment. If you have a little time or other resources to share, please check out our section on volunteers.

If you are an employee, this is the place to sign up for professional development and to check your benefits package. You can also read about the many departments within the district, and learn about promotional opportunities.

The Jefferson County Public School District has experienced a great deal of success through the years. We are recognized for our innovations and achievements in such areas as early childhood education, alternative programs, and support services. I am confident that, working together with all facets of the community, we will see our students and schools attain even greater heights in the years ahead.

As I see it, the goal of education is to promote students’ development—not only their intellectual skills, but also their social and ethical development. This goal is attainable when we provide children with a challenging instructional program, coupled with a caring classroom and school environment. I look forward to meeting you as the year unfolds, and I welcome your input as we move our school district forward in pursuit of this goal.
