We hope you are having a very successful school year. We continue to have pride about YAI students and instructors winning more roles and awards, and we are thrilled of our achievements- congratulations! Now for the good news: We will conduct our 2010 YAI training for students ages 10 through 17, from June 14-25, Mondays through Fridays, from 9:30 AM until 5:00 PM. All classes will be held at the Youth Performing Arts School in Old Louisville, two blocks North of the U of L main campus. In celebration of our 23rd year, we have set the tuition to $282 for the 75 hours of workshop. A $141 deposit must accompany each student's application, and, after May 28, 2010 , that deposit is non-refundable in the event that you change your mind. Tuition total ($282) must be paid in full by Friday, June 4th.

We will offer ten classes - Monologue & Audition Skills, Presentational Acting for the Camera (commercials), Representational Acting for the Camera (cinema), Improvisation & Theatre Games, Make-up, Stage Combat, Fundamentals of Movement, Musical Theatre Movement, Characterization, and Voicing for Broadcast (audio announcing). Each class will meet for 70 Minutes per day in a five-day sequence. We are a process-based program, and do not end with a specific "production"-- instead, parents/guardians are invited to classes on both Fridays to observe culminating activities in each class. Our instructors are all working professionals, with significant performance and/or directing credits. They also possess substantial education and/or teaching backgrounds.

We strive to group students into appropriate age and experience levels. Our target population is sixteen students per class. During a normal day, students will attend Class 1 from 9:30 AM until 10:40 AM; Class 2 from 10:45 AM until 11:55 PM; Class 3 is from 12 Noon to 1:10 PM; Lunch break is from 1:15 Pm to 1:50 PM, Seminar &  Assembly is from 1:55 PM to 2:30 PM; Class 4 is from 2:35 PM to 3:45 PM; and Class 5 runs from 3:50 PM to 5:00 PM.

Since we are hosted by the Youth Performing Arts School, appropriate behavior and dress as stipulated by JCPS must be observed. Students are expected to attend all classes (if students are absent or late, parents/guardians need to call me at 502.485.6392). No students may use tobacco products on campus, and non-prescription drugs, alcohol, or any weapons are strictly prohibited at all times (if a student is prescribed medication, that medication must be stored at the YPAS office and administered by a staff member). Students should wear clothing that allows for movement. Standard dress codes for the YAI program allow no inappropriate messages or insignias. Both genders are expected to maintain a respectful and discreet appearance. Footwear should be sneakers or dance shoes with socks. Valuables and jewelry should never be brought to YAI. In order to enhance the training and performance experience, electronic devices (phones, pagers, radios/CD & tape players, etc.) are not permitted in classes.

You will be notified of your enrollment within two weeks of our receiving your completed application. We have been sold-out (with a waiting list) 10 of the past 11 years; so don't be shut out of our terrific performance workshop. We will announce to the general public in late February/early March. Sign up as soon as possible!
