Dress for Success

Stuart Middle School's School Based Decision Making  Council has adopted a Dress for Success
policy for the 2010 - 2011 school year.  Listed below are the items included in this dress policy.
ONLY these approved items are deemed acceptable attire for Stuart's student body.  All students
will be in uniform beginning with the first day of school.  Uniforms are available at Shaheen's
(778-9741or 964-3391), JC Penney, Coffman's and other locations.
 
 
SHIRTS:
Must be Ash Gray, Hunter Green or Gold;  must have a collar (no round collars);  must be long- or short-sleeved;  must be polo, buttoned-down collar, turtleneck, or Stuart "uniform style;"  must be tucked in at the waist at all times;  collars must be turned down at all times.
             *NOTE:  No emblems, logos, or insignias unless it is a "Stuart" shirt or turtleneck;  no denim, corduroy, chambray, velour, or
               shiny fabrics;  no zippers or snaps;  no muscle shirts;  no tank, sleeveless, low-cut, mesh/see-through tops; 
no cap sleeves;                 
               no 3/4 sleeves;  no red unless Stuart "uniform style."
UNDERSHIRTS:
Must be solid white only; sleeves must not hang below shirtsleeves (including long sleeve t-shirts or turtlenecks worn under short sleeve shirt).
SLACKS:
Must be solid khaki (tan), or solid black.  Must be "uniform trouser-style" straight-legged slacks;  must have belt loops;  must be worn with a belt and at the waist.
             *NOTE:  No corduroy, velvet, denim or velour fabrics;  no jean-style;  no stretch slacks;  no cargo-style;  no bell or flair
               bottoms;  no cut-off slacks;  no tight or provocative slacks/pants (leggings);  no shorts (any length);  no Capri;  no boot cut
               or wide-legged pants;  no slits or tears;  no sweat pants;  no outside, sewn on, or patch pockets.
BELTS:
Solid color traditional belts must be worn buckled at all times. 
             *NOTE:  No oversized buckles.
SKIRTS:
Must be solid khaki (tan), or solid black;  must be pleated or straight "uniform style;"  must touch the kneecap
             *NOTE:  No dresses;  no jumpers;  no denim;  no culottes or skorts;  no stretch;  no outside, sewn-on or patch pockets;
               no split-seam skirts;  no long skirts.
SHOES:
Must be worn at all times;  must be laced/tied (if laces are required).  Shoelaces must be solid white, solid black, or solid brown in color;  no flip-flops;  no shower shoes;  no house shoes;  no clogs with wooden soles;  no accessories on shoelaces;  no shoes that are unsafe or cause a disturbance.  Boots may be worn, but must be kept under the pant leg.
SOCKS, STOCKINGS, TIGHTS:
Must be worn with all shoes.  Must be solid white, solid tan, solid brown, solid black.
OUTERWEAR:
Coats/Jackets:  Must be left in the lockers.
Sweaters:  Must be Hunter Green or Ash Gray;  must be cardigan or pullover with a waistband.
             *NOTE:  No zippers or hoods;  no v-neck, no pattern or design.
Sweatshirts:  Must be Hunter Green or Ash Gray, or "Stuart;"  must have a waistband;
             *NOTE:  No zippers or hoods;  no red sweatshirts unless a "Stuart" sweatshirt.
BOOK BAGS/BACKPACKS/PURSES:
Book bags/backpacks/purses must be left in the lockers during school hours.  Purses may be no larger than 10" x 10".
             *NOTE:  No backpack purses or sling bags carried during the school day.  NO EXCEPTIONS.
HAIR:
Must be clean and neat at all times.  Must be kept at a reasonable length and not covering the eyes.  Hairstyles may not be extreme or distracting, or attention getting.  Headbands must be worn in hair, not on forehead.  For all males, hair may not exceed 1 1/2 inches in height. 
             *NOTE:  No spikes, no puff balls, no designs, letters, or unnatural hair colors (Kool-aid colors, etc.);  no grooming
               combs, metal clips, pencils/pens, hair curlers, hair scarves or sunglasses in the hair.
TATTOOS:
Are highly discouraged and must be kept covered.
             *NOTE:  No body graffiti.
OTHER:
Chains, key chains, belt buckles, and jewelry that are extreme, distracting, or attention-getting must not be displayed.  Female students must be covered from shoulders to the knees (skirts) or ankles (pants).  Male students must be covered from the shoulders to the ankles.  No piercings except earrings, which must be worn in the earlobe(s);  no oversized clothing or clothing with holes;  no sweat, nylon, or silk jogging suits;  no hats, caps, hoods, gloves, scarves, bandanas, sunglasses;  no gang or cult-related styles or attire;  no grillz or decorative teeth accessories.
*Dress code applies to all field trips, to all performance days, and to all activities (dances, athletic events, etc.)
held after school.
 
The principal has the final authority on dress code.
