School Profile
Thomas Jefferson Middle School is a "Nationally Recognized School of Excellence" which accommodates both resides students and those who come from all over the county to participate in the Communications Magnet Program. The Communications program features a computerized Writing/Publishing Center and an award-winning, four-studio Video Production Lab. Students develop sophisticated skills in electronic publishing, computerized television, and multimedia production, using professional software and techniques. Admission to the Magnet Program is by application. In addition, students receive instruction in robotics and computer aided drafting in the Technology 2000 program. A two year program featuring interdisciplinary units and integrated math and science is also offered. Students are served in advance, honors, comprehensive, English as a Second Language, and Exceptional Child Education classes. Emphasis is on helping all students reach high standards of learning. Many T.J. students participate in academic and athletic competitions and the Sports Club Education Program. The school has an active P.T.S.A., S.B.D.M. Council, Youth Services Center, Extended School Services, a Health Promotions Program, and a wide range of after-school extracurricular activities designed to develop the total child.
