Growing up as the son of two JCPS educators, Bill Perkins quickly learned about the importance of education and an affinity for our school district.
Mr. Perkins graduated from the University of Louisville in 1992 with a bachelor of arts degree in political science and started substitute teaching that fall throughout Jefferson County in all grades. During the fall of 1993, Perkins started assisting in coaching football under John Bunting at Doss High School. He would later be hired as a social studies teacher in addition to his responsibilities coaching football. While at Doss, he also completed his master of arts degree in counseling from the University of Louisville and then a Rank I in educational administration from Indiana University Southeast. In 2000, Perkins was hired at Doss High School as a guidance counselor where he remained for four years. He claims that some of his happiest years were in that position helping many students into careers, vocations, and colleges after graduation. In 2004, he became an assistant principal at Southern Leadership Academy where he continued to work hard and build positive relationships with students and their families. In 2007, after filling in as Interim Principal for the first half of the school year, Perkins was named principal of Southern Leadership Academy. He successfully oversaw the formation of a completely new all-boys school, which became Olmsted Academy North in 2008. He was named JCPS Middle School Principal of the Year in 2008 after only his first year in the position.
Mr. Perkins is also involved in the study of historical documents pertaining to the American Presidents and has one published article on the subject. He also serves on three JCPS work team committees: Safety Advisory Committee, the Middle School Principal’s Athletic Committee, and the Research and Planning Committee.
Outside of school, Mr. Perkins enjoys technology, movies, reading, and playing with his daughters Carley, Libby, and Laney. He is married to Tracy and lives in the Jeffersontown community. He loves the Olmsted North community and invites parents and community members to contact him via email or phone anytime.
