Noe Middle School strives to ensure that its diverse student body is successful in school, as well as in life. We do this by preparing students academically and socially for the challenges ahead of them. Noe Middle's ESL team provides English language and content area assistance for students who come from backgrounds where English is not the primary language spoken at home. These students have come from all around the world and have made Louisville their home.
The ESL team provides Language Arts classes, content tutoring, bilingual assistance, and academic monitoring services for an estimated 95 students who speak 13 languages. Noe's ESL population further adds to the fascinating ethnic and cultural diversity of Noe Middle.
Two teachers provide classes in Language Arts, Reading , and general English language skills. Students spend one to two blocks in ESL receiving language assistance depending on their fluency level. The ultimate goal is for the students to progress to a proficient level in English, so that they may be fully immersed into regular program classes.
Noe has three Bilingual Associate Instructors (BAI) who provide native language assistance for students who speak Vietnamese, French, Somali, Mai Mai, Swahili, and Arabic. They also help to bridge the communication gap between school and home, as well as serving as an important resource for the staff at Noe Middle.
Our ESL students have many fascinating stories to tell about their diverse backgrounds ... some are stories of sadness, others of hope and joy, and still others of the power to overcome the world's often harsh adversities in order to make dreams come true. These children truly enhance Noe's cultural and academic environment.
