Road Show

Noe Middle School has available a production entitled "Spotlight on Dance", which introduces children to the elements of Dance and Drama.

Our Road Show (updated and revised every year), has been touring in elementary schools for about ten years now. It is participatory, educational, entertaining and fun! Directed and choreographed by Noe dance teacher Denee Bannister, the show is a great arts experience and CATS preparation.

Dance and Theatre Arts Curriculum

dance theatre arts photoDance and Theatre Arts (DATA) is a unique Noe class that focuses on a wide variety of dance experiences, while including drama activities.

All students will experience a variety of dance forms, including jazz, tap, ballet, folk, country line dance, recreational dance and creative movement. They will learn about the elements of dance (space, time and force). They will also practice acting skills that introduce pantomime and theatre games in 6th grade and continue with monologue, improvisation and scene study in 7th and 8th grades. All students will also learn about the elements of production (lighting, costumes, scenery, props, make-up, sound, choreography).

dance theatre arts photo6th grade DATA is an exploratory, introductory skills level that lasts a semester. Students with previous experience are "pushed" to increase their abilities.

7th and 8th grade classes are yearlong programs. These continuing classes allow the students with previous experience to really advance in dance and drama with more difficult skills classes and more performing experiences. Eighth graders will participate in the infamous Road Show that travels to schools, performing an original dance and drama musical.

Drama (8th Grade Continuing Drama)

dance theatre arts photoThis is a continuing drama class. Students will work to review and advance their skills in pantomime, improvisation, monologues, scene study and play production. An emphasis will be placed on creative thinking and higher order skills of analysis and evaluation as we reflect on the valued of each lesson. We will be developing the skills of the actor: mind, body, and voice (and having some fun while we’re doing it!).

This class will work to develop an ensemble feeling so that each student feels comfortable working with others in the class -- building trust and self confidence. Students that plan to audition for YPAS will have the opportunity to work on their monologues and everyone will experience audition "best practices."

dance theatre arts photoWe will attend a variety of dance and theatrical performances, which always conclude with follow up evaluations, discussions and writing.

An appreciation for the performing arts is a key ingredient in the program.

Learning how to be a good audience is very important.
