Our Programs and Academic Focus
'Simply the Best' Middle School Educators The educators at Newburg Middle School care about the development and success of your child. All teachers and administrators participate in collegial study groups to research best practices to address the equity issues that address the needs of our diverse population. All personnel at NMS meet the federal standard as highly qualified educators. Many have advanced degrees in Technology. Advanced Program Advance Program students receive an accelerated curriculum in the core content areas. More specifically, the Mathematics curriculum is one-year advanced. Newburg Middle School offers Band, Chorus, Spanish, and Media Lab as Related Arts options. |
Math/Science/Technology (MST) Program MST students receive an advanced curriculum devoted to the early preparation of high school and college. Students are surrounded by others that are committed to excellence in the field of education throughout the day. Successful completion of the MST/AP curriculum opens doors of opportunity for high school and college. Those students/parents interested in the magnet program must apply during the district's designated period for application, usually November through early January. For additional information, contact the school office at 485-8306. Math At Newburg Middle School, students are exposed to mathematical concepts that promote higher order thinking skills. The curriculum covers the areas of: number/computation, geometry/measurement, probability/statistics, and algebraic concepts. The Connected Math Curriculum provides students with engaging, real-world problems that typically provoke student interest and concept retention. Science Newburg Middle School's Science team is dedicated to the Inquiry Approach to learning. Hands-on activities and experimentation are a 'must' in every school lab. Extensive programs for students with a special interest in science include: Partnership with the Louisville Zoo, SECME, Lego Club, and Robotics. Technology In the technology program at NMS, all students are given the opportunity to expand their knowledge of technology via MS Word, Understanding Math, Word Excel, PowerPoint, multiple projection devices, and also on the latest PC Notebooks as they are embedded into the core content. Offering five state-of-the-art equipped computer labs. Students also have access to laptop computers. NMS provides student access to the Internet, e-mail, and current software for the creation and design of projects in the content areas. |
