School Profile
Waggener Traditional High School students get the best of both worlds, thanks to the schools traditional philosophy, providing a highly structured education coupled with career training in engineering, hospitality studies, and child development. The schools Engineering Program, recognized as one of the nations best at the International Technology Education Association Conference, prepares students for post-secondary studies in mathematics and science. The coursework stresses computer use, problem solving, applied-engineering concepts, and shadowing professional engineers. The Hospitality Tech Prep Program includes Culinary Arts and Electronic Communication Systems, and Pre-Architecture/Construction Technology. In Culinary Arts, students are provided hands-on activities in planning, food preparation, food presentation, service, storage, and sanitation. Electronic communication encompasses video production, scriptwriting, editing, and presentation/broadcast skills. Pre-Architecture illustrates real-world applications of academic principles through the study of structures to prepare students for entry into an university program. Waggeners Early Child-Development Program provides training for entry-level jobs in day-care centers, kindergartens, nurseries, and private homes. Simulated work experience and on-the-job training prepare students for success in working with young children. Articulation agreements with the University of Louisville, Sullivan College, Bellarmine College, and Jefferson Community College allow Waggener students opportunities to obtain advance training while still attending high school. Waggeners small size provides an excellent environment for nurturing students academic growth. Students are so important at Waggener that they are included on the School-Based Decision Making Council to make sure student concerns are addressed. Waggener offers the Advance Program, the Honors Program, and Extended School Services.
