Valley Traditional High School

School Profile
The Mission of Valley Traditional High School is that we believe our purpose is to prepare all students for life by providing situations, which help them become creative, literate, rational, and functional members of society. We believe that all students are unique, valuable, and capable of learning. The Vision of Jefferson County Public Schools and Valley Traditional High School is to provide every student with both the opportunity and the support that he or she needs to benefit from a high-quality educational experience that is founded on a results-oriented teaching-learning process. Our Vision includes all staff and students striving towards excellence. Valley is proud to introduce a variety of specialized programs including Industrial Technology, Real Estate, and Allied Health. Job shadowing and work experiences are a vital part of the program. Valley offers students educational programs in the structured environment of the Traditional Program. The Traditional Program emphasizes basic skills in a highly structured educational environment, firm discipline and dress codes, learning with daily follow-up assignments, and concepts of courtesy, patriotism, morality and respect for others. Valley Traditional High School introduced the Freshman Academy in 2003. The Freshman Academy enables our students to experience an academic atmosphere that promotes success. Teachers on the teams learn about their students in ways that allow them to better educate the young people they serve. The teachers work collaboratively to help each freshman be successful regardless of his or her academic level. The Freshman Academy will help grade nine students adapt to being in high school, both socially and academically. The academy involves the entire freshman grade level and will allow first-year high school students to experience school without the fear of falling into the typical pitfalls of being in a new environment. Our major goal is to present an atmosphere that will foster academic success in all of our freshman students. The schools four computer labs give students a technological edge. In the 2005-2006 school year, Valleys Computer Application Skills Assessment scores increased by 15%. Award-winning athletic programs and intramural sports keep students involved in extracurricular activities, and the Navy JROTC, Rifle Team, and Drill Team have all been honored for outstanding performance. Students can challenge themselves with Honors Program classes or get extra help with their studies through the Extended School Services Program. Valley is a Site-Based Decision Making school.
