School Profile
Pleasure Ridge Park High School Magnet Career Academy is a successful blend of academics and technology. The school's experienced faculty concentrates on basic academic studies that prepare young people to function successfully in the adult world. PRP's Optional programs include Industrial Chemical Plastics Technology, Future Educators, and the Columbia-JCC Health Institute. These programs are taught in close conjunction with Jefferson Community College Southwest. The schools’ Magnet Career Academy offers Information Processing and Horticulture. PRP has numerous partnerships with local businesses that offer students job experiences during the school year and over the summer months. Local corporations’ employees visit the school for skills demonstrations and lectures. Qualified juniors and seniors can take college-level classes offered by local colleges and universities. All totaled, students are offered 64 college credits while still in high school. Minority students (Grades Nine through Twelve) can participate in an elective class jointly sponsored by Florida A & M University and the University of Louisville. Florida A & M’s program prepares minority students for college, and Louisville’s program is designed for students pursuing careers in teaching. PRP offers Advance and Honors programs, Extended School Services, School-Based Decision Making, and an intergenerational Senior Citizens Center.
