Academics

Waggener is a school with open enrollment, which allows any Jefferson County student to attend Waggener Traditional High School. Waggener is able to have a student body with many different backgrounds. We now are a part of the ESL Program (English as a Second Language). We offer 6 magnet programs, which are programs designed for the student to be ready for higher learning and a career in that area.

Waggener also offers AP courses for those students who feel that they need a little more of a challenge. This program is a way for high school juniors and seniors to achieve both high school and college credit. This program is offered through Bellarmine College.

Advance Program contains about 11% of Waggener's students. Programs which are designed for the top 3% of the academically gifted students in a school system of 96,000. The curriculum focuses on theory, abstractions and self- expression. A student must have a minimum of 12 Advance Program credits, including foreign language and humanities requirements and maintain 3.0 GPA.

Honors Program contains 35% of the students at Waggener. It is designed for regular students who qualify for participating in these accelerated classes. This program is a planned college preparatory curriculum that provides students with enriched experiences. A student must maintain a 2.5 GPA and complete a minimum of 12 honors credits, including one credit in fine arts and computers.

Regular Program makes up 40% of the students. This is your basic high school level classes. These classes will prepare you for post secondary education.

With outstanding professionals, Waggener provides a comprehensive and varied educational program for students. The faculty is highly motivated, dedicated, and talented. It has distinguished itself over the years individually and collectively by participating in state, regional, and national organizations. It was chosen as a school in reward by the state of Kentucky in 1994. Approximately 80% of the faculty holds Masters Degrees. The faculty averages 20 years of experience.
