School Profile
Shawnee High School Magnet Career Academy’s Aerospace/Aviation Travel/Tourism Aviation Program is a recipient of the Charles A. Chief Anderson Award as the Outstanding Aviation Magnet in America. Shawnee's four-year program offers specialized courses designed to help students develop the academic and technical skills necessary for further work and training in the aviation, aerospace, and travel and tourism industries. To provide students with the best possible training, the program follows guidelines established by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and the American Society of Travel Agents. Upon completing required coursework and exams, students can earn an FAA private pilot's license, an FAA aircraft maintenance technology (AMT) certificate, or special certification in customer services areas. In addition to studies related to air transportation, Shawnee offers a Marine Technology Magnet Program that teaches maintenance of equipment for water transportation. Successful students can earn a Marine (boat engine) Technology Certificate of Mastery. Shawnee also offers a Navy JROTC Career Academy and a Tech 2000 Lab and Expanded Careers Program. All students are expected to complete three to four years of mathematics and science before graduation. Shawnee offers the Honors Program, Extended School Services, and a Youth Services Center.
