International Studies Seminar 1
Emphasis: World Culture Markets—"WorldFest"
International Studies Seminar 1 is a core course of the International Studies Major at the Human Services, Education, and International Studies theme high schools. It is meant to introduce students to the variety of approaches to international studies in the social sciences and the humanities. The course is both interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary, as students will understand how disciplines approach problems and questions as well as how different disciplines connect with one another. Students will be introduced to the ways in which different areas of the world fit into these disciplinary perspectives and how the same disciplinary perspective may vary in different regions. Students will be familiar with different ways of looking at the world as well as the ways in which other regions are different from or similar to their own region.

Emphasis: Technology—Connections Around the World—Documentary Project
International Studies Seminar 2 is a core course of the International Studies Major at the Human Services, Education, and International Studies theme high schools. International Studies Seminar 3 is a core course of the International Studies Major at the Human Services, Education, and International Studies theme high schools. In this course, students will become familiar with the various "ways of knowing" in different disciplines and will explicitly compare these perspectives. Emphasis: Exit Project Program–Community Service
International Studies Seminar 4 is a core course of the International Studies Major at the Human Services, Education, and International Studies theme high schools. It is meant to introduce students to the variety of approaches to international studies in the social sciences and the humanities. In this course, students will become familiar with the various "ways of knowing" in different disciplines and will explicitly compare these perspectives. Pre-Law Major
Objectives
- Help young adults determine if their future lies within the field of law (e.g., attorney, police, elected officials) through study and hands-on application (e.g., trial simulations, writings, argument, dialectic)
- Mold reasoning individuals wo are dedicated and knowledgeable of our laws and legal process, with a commitment to equal justice, social responsibility, and the resolution of dispute
- Assist students in developing critical-thinking, problem-solving, and leadership skills
- Make learning exciting and relevant through interactive and innovative methods of instruction
Unique Opportunities
- Participate in mock trials and student courts
- Compete in debates at local, state, and national levels, which provides students with an opportunity to develop verbal communication skills
- Offer dual enrollment in law-related college courses in grades eleven and twelve
- Shadow local judges, lawyers, government officials, and other various leaders during a typical day
- Attend field trips to county government offices, including courtrooms, judge chambers, law libraries, department of elections, and other various county sites
- Plan, organize, implement, and host mock elections
- Learn about various areas of law, government, and leadership from guest speakers
Admissions Criteria
- Enter in ninth or tenth grade next school year
- Obtain three favorable teacher recommendations
- 2.5 grade point average (GPA)
Description
The Pre-Law Program curriculum includes law-related and leadership skills courses that provide pathways for careers leading toward law studies, business technology education, and legal assistant technology through partnerships with local colleges.
Purpose
To provide students with an in-depth understanding of how our legal system, Constitution, and judicial process impact every aspect of our society and to provide leadership opportunities throughout our school-community
