The
Eastern High School Art program is one of the best in Jefferson
County and the State of Kentucky. Every year, students at Eastern
are recognized for their artistic flair as they enter contests
and showcase their work throughout the county, state, and the
nation.
In 2006, the Eastern Art department was invited to decorate the
new Muhammad Ali Center in downtown Louisville. Students spent
several months going downtown after school to paint murals and
other decorations.
Eastern also enters several art contests. In 2008-2009 we won 64 regional awards, 13 regional scholastic gold key portfolios, 1 national silver key portfolio and $64,000 scholarship, and DJ Corney won best artist of the regional scholastics art show. At the 2006 - 2007
Scholastic Art Regional contest, Eastern students won 21 Gold
Keys, 19 Silver Keys, and 70 winning pieces. Eastern is currently
ranked second as an art school in all of Kentucky and Indiana.
The Gold Key winners were put on exhibit at the Kentucky Arts
and Craft Museum. Then they were moved on to New York to compete
at Nationals.
The Art department hosts their annual Art festival, where thousands
of students, parents, and members of the community stop by to
view the creativity of Eastern's student body. At the festival,
awards and recognition are given to all students.
