Varsity

Varsity Scoring a GoalWith fourteen seniors playing on varsity this year, Eastern’s Varsity Boys Soccer team was not short on talent. The team was led by Captains Cody Covert and Eric Shacklette along with the other seniors who played a vital role in the success of this team. The team had a tough schedule and a difficult district, but ended up with an extremely successful season.

At each home game, the Eagles were supported by a large number of dedicated fans. The team had an astounding year overall, with only one loss at home. With a record of 12-7-1, there’s no doubt that the team played well. In the regular season, the Eagles destroyed Ballard, shutting them out by a score of 4-0. They also played exceptionally well in the Eastern Pre-Season Jamboree, defeating Doss 9-0 and Russell 5-0.

In the District Tournament, the Boys’ Soccer Team started off well, defeating KCD 1-0, but unfortunately lost to Christian Academy 4-1 in the championship. However, this second place finish earned the team a bid to Regionals. The season was cut short by a loss to Oldham County, but a third place finish in Regionals still makes for an exceptional year. Undoubtedly, the team had a winning year with many successes.

Many outstanding players made up the team. Senior captain Cody Covert was named an All-State player, and also won the offensive MVP for the team. Captain Eric Shacklette earned the defensive MVP award, Paul Heiniger received the leadership award, Pat Parris won the spirit award, Matias Aramburu was the rookie of the year, and Jake Schiphorst received the coaches award. All fourteen of the team’s seniors played a major role and will be difficult to replace since they are such an enjoyable group. The team remained unified throughout the season and ended with an amazing year.

Junior Varsity

The Boys’ Junior Varsity soccer team was certainly not short on talent. During the season, they took down Ballard with a score of 2-1, and beat Male 2-1. The team hadn’t beaten Male in years, so this was a huge victory for the Eagles.

The 2009 JV team improved a great deal from last year’s team. This year’s players were bigger and had much more experience. The team certainly worked hard and improved their skills to prepare the players for the varsity level.
