For a truly unique look at what happens at Eastern every year,
look no farther than The Talon, Eastern’s yearbook. This entertaining
publication is entirely the work of the dedicated students in our
computer graphics program.
The yearbook staff, lead by Lauren Gray and Adam Mallory, is
a tenacoius group of students. They embody hard work, creativity,
and dedication unlike any other student organization. This past
year, The Talon earned continued praise as it won First Place
for Advertising and Third Place for cover design at the Western
Kentucky University Journalism Day Competition. We even won a
special award for our Quidditch coverage.
Yearbook is not your typical class, and The Talon is not your typical
yearbook. It is the culmination of student voices and images bound
in a visually compelling publication that is known for its dazzling
and entertaining layouts and graphics; it is an eye-popping journey
through the events and happenings of Eastern High School.
This two year course earns students credits in technology, prepares
students for internships, and provides fundamental experience
in desktop publishing, graphic design, writing, computer graphics,
and printing technology. We use industry standard software to
create The Talon, such as Adobe Photoshop and InDesign.
Furthermore, being a Talon staff member provides a student with
the opportunity to be a part of one of the most successful yearbooks
in the country. The Talon will challenge even the most gifted
young student and give them the opportunity to participate in
a real world production of a book that other students will be
willing to buy.
In short, it is a product not a project.
Students can apply for yearbook during their sophomore year.
