men's tennis

The 2009 men's tennis team had a successful season. They posted a record 16 wins with only 6 losses in dual matches, and ended the searson by placing 4th in the region. Some of the top wins were: Ballard (3-2), Franklin Co. (8-1), Corbin (5-4), and Male (4-1). The 2009 team was led by its underclassmen, and eight out of its top 10 players will be returning for the 2010 season, which should be another strong year for the boys' tennis team.

Last spring’s twelve-member team boasted one senior, six juniors, two sophomores, and three new freshmen. "Our team this year showed a lot of growth in their individual games as well as team growth," says Coach Casey Staggs. "We will be losing four very valuable seniors this year, so we will be looking for fresh talent to combine with the leadership of our seasoned players," commented Staggs.

Despite being in a very competitive region that is dominated by five private schools and having a few inexperienced players, the girl’s team managed to make a name for themselves. The record of this year’s team improved greatly compared to that of last year’s team. Their dedication and determination was the key factor in a complete turn around. Coach Staggs was extremely proud of the girls’ hard work and effort. She has high hopes for the team’s results as a new season approaches.
