Central High School Magnet Career Academy

School Profile
Central High School Magnet Career Academy offers a precollege curriculum consisting of nearly a dozen specialized Magnet Programs for students. These programs are offered in four distinct areas: Business, Law and Government, Computer Technology, and Medicine. In the medical program, for example, students can focus on dental science, clinical lab science, medical office administration, nursing, pharmacy, or veterinary science. In business, students learn the ins and outs of managing a business, plus essentials in accounting, banking, and finance. Freshmen spend three weeks sampling each of the four Magnet areas before choosing their speciality. Because of the schools downtown location, students participate in many internships and partnerships provided by the business, government, and medical communities. Several law and government students become paid legal eagles during the summer months, gaining valuable on-the-job experience in local law firms. Central was the only school in Kentucky recently honored, by Business Week and McGraw Hill, for successfully preparing students for college and careers. Central offers Advance and Honors programs. Students also can participate in the schools Extended School Services Program. Central is a School-Based Decision Making school.
