We made it! The end of the school year is upon us and it marks the end of four successful years for the class of 2011. The hard work and countless hours of study are about to pay off as graduation is just around the corner and another amazing group of Butler Bears is set to take off into the world and do fantastic things. As the counselor for this class since its formation in the fall of 2007, I have to say what an honor and a privilege it has been to serve such an awesome group of young people. My hope is that they will use the lessons learned here at Butler to prepare to lead long and productive lives. Seeing our students grow into the young adults they are meant to be is what makes my job worthwhile. This class has been a real blessing, and for that I am grateful.
As the year comes to a close, many events and activities will be taking place. Each student was provided with a senior events calendar so they could keep track of these dates. Parents, if your student did not provide you with this calendar or it has been lost, there are extra calendars available in the Guidance Center. Many of these events are mandatory, so please be certain to read the calendar carefully and call us here at school if you have any questions.
Most seniors have decided where they would like to attend college and have already been accepted to the school of their choice. Many seniors have chosen to join the military or attend a trade school. Seniors, if you have not yet applied to a college or have yet to find the path that is right for you, feel free to see Mr. Stites. It is not too late to make plans for after high school. Many schools are still accepting students, even up until the first day of classes in the fall. Even if you don’t think that college is right for you, there is something out there for you. As it’s said, “When you fail to plan, you plan to fail.”
Those of you who are still looking for scholarships have several opportunities left to apply. Many websites such as fastweb.com are still providing scholarship applications at this point. Also, several of the scholarships that have been listed in the senior bulletins have not yet passed. Each senior should have received copies of these bulletins. If not, all of this information is available on the senior class website: http://teacherweb.com/KY/ButlerTraditionalHighSchool/Classof2011.
Again, it’s been a fantastic four years. Thank you to all of the members of the class of 2011 and to all of the loved ones who support them. Please remember that you are a senior once, but you are a bear for life. Take care and let’s finish the school year on a high note.
