Unique—that’s the term most often used to describe Brown School, the District’s only school with elementary, middle, and high school students in the same building. Approximately 650 students in Kindergarten through Grade Twelve attend Brown. What makes the school “one of a kind” is its less structured environment, extensive community interactions, cross-age groupings, and diverse student population. No bells or buzzers sound between classes at Brown—a quiet class change permits flexible scheduling.

On any given day, some classes work together on a lesson while others are on an excursion to observe local government. Oftentimes students work in small groups or on individual projects. This informal environment cultivates students’ skills of self-discipline, responsibility, and decision making, ultimately enabling the students to develop self-directed learning styles. Brown School is a community school, providing a community environment to support individual learning needs.
